SED Staff Wildfire Investigations
Wildfire Incident Reports and Staff Investigation Reports
The Safety and Enforcement Division conducts staff investigations of wildfires involved with electric investor-owned utility (IOU) equipment to assess utility compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Staff do not determine the cause of the fire. When a utility reports an electric incident potentially associated with a wildfire, CPUC staff perform site visits and collect data to assess if the utility violated any Commission or state rules and regulations. After CPUC staff have concluded their investigation, an investigation report is prepared. If violations are found, the Commission may take enforcement action against the utility.
